Quoted in the Clayton County Register on November 21, 1931, an
official statement issued by officers of the new institute said: "We
have the pleasure to announce to you that, effective on the morning
of Thursday, the 12th of November, 1931, the business of the First
National Bank and the Elkader State Bank will be merged into one
institution and known as The Central State Bank & Trust Company of
Elkader, Iowa. Men of known integrity, experience and financial
ability are in charge, and we believe the future will show both the
wisdom and the usefulness of the step, which has been taken."
Since then Central State Bank has purchased St.Olaf State Bank in
1958, now closed; Volga State Bank on April 12, 1966; The Elkader
Drive-up facility opened in 1989 and the First State Bank of
McGregor and Marquette was acquired in 1990.
